Is CBC Suppressing Muslim Voices Concerning Taliban’s Rise to Power?

Is CBC Suppressing Muslim Voices Concerning Taliban’s Rise to Power?

In August of 2021, the Americans withdrew from Afghanistan, which permitted the Taliban to regain control. The CBC reported extensively on this from many angles: human rights, women’s rights, education, interpreters, airport explosion, etc.

One angle that seems to be missing from the extensive coverage of the rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan is the voice of Canadian Muslim leaders. As of September 8, 2021, a search on CBC web site revealed nothing that referred to Canadian Imam Younus Kathrada’s statements about the Taliban.

Imam Younus Kathrada is a senior, influential leader in Canada, who has clearly spoken about the Taliban’s rise to power in Afghanistan.

Below is a transcript of a clip that Canadian Imam Younus Kathrada had up loaded on his YouTube channel on August 20, 2021, View Clip

I incite you to show support for your brothers in Afghanistan who wants to establish the Shari’a in their land. We see that the West wants to talk about the rights of women. Oh yes, the rights of women, her right to be a prostitute, her right to sleep around with whomever she wishes. I want you to understand what those rights are, oh, by the way, her right to be abused, her right to show her body off to men who gets off on watching her in porn. Allah Grant victory to the mujahideen for your sake everywhere. Allah grant success to our brothers in Afghanistan. So that they establish your Sharia on this land.

Further support was added by Senior Colorado Imam Karim AbuZaid, who often speaks in Canadian mosques.

Below is a partial transcript;

Now the laws of Taliban – the laws of the Sharia – of Islam, that’s what they want to implement in their country. So what is wrong with that? Why don’t you place this on the same level, equal to Macron forcing women not to wear their hijab under the notion of keeping the custom and the principles of the Republic?

Listen – the hijab is an element of Islam. Muslims, you should love for the Sharia of Allah to be established through…Taliban happened to be the ruling authority in Afghanistan. Don’t they have the right to at least show their women the Islamic dress code?

On September 8, 2021 at 10am I sent a media inquiry the CBC

Why has the CBC given no coverage to Canadian Imam Younus Kathrada’s statements on the rise to power of the Taliban in Afghanistan when said statement was covered by independent media?

Why has the CBC given no coverage to Canadian Imam Younus Kathrada’s statements on Palestine and al-Aqsa Mosque made over the last several years? These statements were made public by independent media. Why did the CBC see fit to ignore them?

I will be publishing at 5 pm. If you need more time, please let me know.

Imam Karim Abu Zaid who has lectured in Toronto and other Canadian cities uploaded a lecture – Can they force me to wear Hijab? (Taliban in Afghanistan) on Aug 27, 2021. Below is a partial transcript.

When somebody who is learned who knows how to read the Quran tells you that a hijab is not in the Quran, in the Sunnah, there is something wrong with your mind. Whether you’re a twisted minded person or you really do not know how to read, but hijab is an element of this religion… Hijab is in the revelation. Hijab is part of this religion. We may debate the concept here… Hijab by the way means a screen, means a veil… The consensus of scholars that the hijab in Islam is to cover the entire body except the face and the two palms… But there is a place in the Sharia regarding what we call nikab. In Afghanistan it is called the burka. Covering of the entire face except for the two eyes. There are scholars who say it’s mandatory

Islam is actually become a kind of solution for humanity and it is only we if Allah uses us it is the best service to make his law a solution for all humanity – if we do this thing – I can say to you it will be the best thing not only for us for this country (Canada) but for the whole of humanity as well.

Mustafa Farooq In a Facebook post (November 3, 2009) wrote (the post is no longer available online):

In terms of civic disobedience, while definitely important, we have to look more closely at how are we Muslims going to recreate Cordoba* in Edmonton/Toronto/Montreal/any Canadian city? We have a massive task ahead of us, but I really believe that it is one at which we can succeed, one in which we erase these artificial “nation-state” identities, and move together to pursue Jannah [paradise].

From an Islamic point of view there is absolutely nothing radical about wanting caliphate or wanting Shari’a. These are completely normal traditional points of view.

Syed Hassan Mujtaba Rizvi

You have to realize this is not going to stop it is only the beginning and as it goes forward these are the steps towards the one government that is going to be over the whole world that is the government of the Imam.

Karim AbuZaid is a senior respected Imam and scholar that has been invited to Canadian mosques to give guest lectures. His last visit to Canada was to give a weekend workshop on a book by Jamil Zino – Individual And Social Reform. This workshop took place On June 18, 2018 at the Salaheddin Islamic Centre in Scarborough

Some Canadian leaders tell the Canadian population that, the action of the Taliban does not reflect the teachings of Islam. However some senior Imams seem to agree with many of the policies implemented by the Taliban.

Karim AbuZaid speak at some length on the Taliban policy concerning concerning women. Below is a partial transcript of Imam AbuZaid’s statement uploaded on August 21 0f 2021

Is the hijab an element of Islam? Yes it is. Hijab is mandatory upon every women who attains the age of puberty.

Hijab in Islam is the covering of the entire body except the face and the hands.

The bourka or niqab which is the covering of the face except the eyes this is a recommended not mandatory.

If a Muslim who loves Allah sees a sister…. When a sister does not wear the hijab she is committing a major sin… If she is my daughter I could use, lawful, legal means to force my daughter to wear her hijab, provided I am not violating the laws of the land.

Now the laws of Taliban – the laws of the Sharia – of Islam that’s what they want to implement in their country. So what is wrong with that? Similarities Between Taliban – Mustafa Farooq & Canadian Imams

Similarities Between Taliban – Mustafa Farooq & Canadian Imams

What is a Taliban? Taliban means seeker of knowledge.

In the true sense of the word Canadian Muslim scholars are Taliban.

What is the main goal or mission of the political group known as Taliban? Taliban official spokesmen have communicated that it is to establish a Caliphate – Islamic State – governed by shari’a law.

Senior respected influential Muslim Canadian leaders teach that it is a moral obligation for all Muslims to strive to implement shari’a law in Canada and the world. “Muslims do not want to take over for the sake of taking over.” “Wanting to establish sharia is a perfectly health, normal, thing for Muslims to want.” View Clip

In 2011, Mustafa Farooq CEO of NCCM, (National Council of Canadian Muslims), a leading Muslim advocacy and charitable organization that advises the Liberal Party on all matters concerning the Muslim community, did publicly state “We need to establish shari’a law in Edmonton, Ottawa, and Montreal and eliminate nation state identities”

Imam Shabbir Ally did say that groups such as “ISIS… are using verses from the Quran, Hadith and Shari’a law to justify their action”

Islamic Booth at Dundas SQ in Toronto distributes literature that instructs Muslims on their religions duty to fight to establish Sharia law.

ICNA Canada on it’s site has a book Garden of the Righteous so long as Kufr [disbelief] is present in this world, it is necessary to wage Jihad against it to finish it off, and so long as all the disbelievers do not openly accept Islam and adopt the Islamic way of life, Muslims are duty- bound to make Jihad against them.”

The following is excerpt from PETTITION 411 The precursor to m103.

  • Recently an infinitesimally small number of extremist individuals have conducted terrorist activities while claiming to speak for the religion of Islam. Their actions have been used as a pretext for a notable rise of anti-Muslim sentiments in Canada; and
  • These violent individuals do not reflect in any way the values or the teachings of the religion of Islam. In fact, they misrepresent the religion. We categorically reject all their activities. They in no way represent the religion, the beliefs and the desire of Muslims to co-exist in peace with all peoples of the world.

Is it reasonable, based on petition 411 and m103, to conclude that those who oppose establishing an Islamic state in Canada are participating in an act of Islamophobia?
