Imam “Not Taking Over for the Sake of Taking Over. But…”

Hello & welcome to “Islam moving Forward in Canada” Several years ago Abdool Hamid a senior Imam at the Toronto Center Mosque at Bay & Dunda gave a lecture. In this lecture Imam Abdool Hamid was contextualizing the context surrounding the duty, obligation of true believing Muslim to save Canada. In this lecture Imam Abdool Hamid said & I quote

Ultimately brothers and sisters our goal as Muslims should be to transform to move it along. Not just to be satisfied with the situation as we find it and we try to fit in somehow. As I said that may be necessary initially. But Islam came to transform the lives of people to improve it for them. By change I don’t mean we want to take over for the sake of taking over. By change what I mean is to improve the lives of people. That’s why Islam came. And that’s what it did in the time of the prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. Of course in improving the lives of people changes will have to be made so it may seem from one perspective that Islam took over so to speak.

Understanding the fuller context helps to more fully understand the context of Islam in Canada Thanks for Watching. Hope to see you soon. Good buy.

  1. 5:44-46), even if it is quite legitimately demanded by society and its justice system. However, it is not possible to proclaim a “blanket reconciliation” in an effort to bind wounds by decree or to cover injustices in a cloak of oblivion. Who can claim the right to forgive in the name of others? It is moving to see forgiveness shown by those who are able to leave behind the harm they suffered, but it is also humanly understandable in the case of those who cannot. In any case, forgetting is never the answer.
