Muslim Green Square Campaign or Veterans Red Poppy Campaign

Green Square campaign compared to the red poppy. On January 29, Politicians and Islamic leaders will stand shoulder to shoulder to commemorate National Islamophobia day. Green will be the colour of the day. NCCM encourages all Canadians to wear a Green Square in memory of the six killed in the Quebec mosque attack. Coast to coast Muslim prayers will ring out over the land. And for the next three hours Canadians will be commemorating. Full agenda and list of speakers.

Cities across Canada will set their most prominent monuments alight in green. This is done as we approach the 5th anniversary of the shooting at the Islamic Cultural Centre in Québec City.

Not all Canadians are in support of the Green Day campaign. Canadians ask if this will diminish the sacrifice of Canadian war veterans. One minute of silence per year commemorates 100 thousand dead and 110 thousand wounded. Library of archives

Imam Mazin Adhim posted on his FB page in 2019:

“Today is Remembrance Day. Here is an interesting conversation I had with my daughters about why we don’t celebrate it”

The Ottomans were Muslims. Remembrance Day first started after Britain and France and the others defeated us, killed millions of our people.

This clip was uploaded by Imam Mazin Adhim in November 2020 to clarify any misunderstanding of his position regarding the red poppy .

‘You people’: Don Cherry under fire for claiming new immigrants don’t wear Remembrance Day Poppies

‘You people. You love our way of life. You love our milk and honey. Least you can pay a couple bucks for a poppy or something like that,’ Cherry said.

Don Cherry fired by Sportsnet over ‘you people’ rant on Coach’s Corner

Cherry, 85, had singled out new immigrants for not wearing poppies to honour Canada’s veterans and dead soldiers. For doing this he was cancelled. In comparison, the Imam who called Canadian veterans war criminal suffered no reprisals.

in November of 2019, I sent a media inquiry to Islamic schools in Ontario and Alberta. I asked them to respond to the statement made by a senior Muslim imam and scholar from London, Ontario that reads: “Islamic schools won’t have it [Remembrance Day] as a holiday because we don’t celebrate it.” As of November 23, 2019, none of the Islamic schools responded to the media inquiry.

On January 20, 2022 I sent another media inquiry. I have not received any reply as of the publishing of this article on January 27, 2022.

The following is the inquiry that I sent:

I am sending you and the following organizations a media inquiry: ICNA Canada, CCI (Canadian Council of Muslims). NCCM (National Council of Canadian Muslims), and  MAC (Muslim Association of Canada).

NCCM is promoting the Green Square Campaign. The following is from NCCM’s website:

“In honour of the memory of the victims, in recognition of those who selflessly and courageously put themselves in harm’s way to protect others, and in solidarity with the survivors of this tragedy [Quebec mosque shooting], we mark this day by inviting each and every Canadian to stand with us by joining the Green Square Campaign.

It was reported by the Mackenzie Institute that ‘Imam’ of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Canada, Abdul-Adhim, openly stated, “No Muslim should honour the memory of those war criminals by wearing a poppy.”

  1. Is NCCM calling for Canadians to wear the Green Square Campaign reciprocated by NCCM and the Muslim community leadership’s calling on all Canadian Muslims to wear the red poppy in November to commemorate fallen Canadian soldiers?
  • What is your message to those Muslim leaders who say that it is forbidden for Muslims to wear the poppy?
  • Do you agree or disagree with the statement by Imam Abdul-Adhim that Canadian soldiers are war criminals?

I will be publishing an article regarding the Green Square Campaign on January 23rd. I will include your reply in the article.

Thank you

Eric Brazau
