Can a Muslim Woman Show her face in Public?

Can a Muslim Woman Show her face in Public?

No. A Muslim woman cannot, according to Mainstream Islamic teaching, show her face in public. Some less senior scholars say it is optional. However, all scholars agree it is preferred a Muslim women cover her face. However, a prepubescents female that has not yet bled her first mensuration can show her face in public.

When is it permissible for a woman to uncover her face?

Question

We know that the most correct opinion among the scholars is that women should cover their faces, but there are many situations where women cannot cover their faces. Could you shed more light on this topic?

Answer

The most correct opinion, which is supported by evidence, is that it is obligatory to cover the face, therefore young women are forbidden to uncover their faces in public or in front of non-marham men.

Rules have exemptions for special situations

Small girl 5 years old. wears a pink Muslim head scarf covers her shoulders. her face is visible
Non Menstruating female Muslim exposing face Toronto 2008
  1. Proposal of marriage. It is permitted for a woman to uncover her face and hands in front of a man who wants to propose to her, so that he may see the face and hands, without being alone and without touching her. The face gives an indication of ugliness or beauty, and the hands whether the body is slender give an impression of fertility.

Question

Is it permissible for a woman to uncover her eyes unnecessarily?

Women must wear niqab, but they can leave their eyes uncovered so that they can see where they are going. Is it obligatory for women to cover our eyes if we re not walking and there is no need to see where we are going?

Orthodox Muslim couple man wearing white gown woman wears complete black even gloves small slit for vision
Traditional Muslim couple Toronto Summer 2008

Answer

Scholars said that it is permissible for a woman to wear niqab [in stead of bourka], but that is on condition that she does not go to extremes in uncovering the eye socket or show too much of the cheeks.

There is nothing wrong with a woman wearing a niqab from which only her eyes appear through a narrow opening which does not uncover anything more than what is needed in order to see her surroundings even if it is not necessary for her to see her surroundings .

Can an Elderly woman uncover her face in public or before non-mahrams?

Allaah has permitted elderly women to uncover their faces before non-mahram men.

Abu Bakr al-Jassaas (may Allaah have mercy on him) and [al-Noor 24:60], Ibn Mas’ood and Mujaahid said: With regard to the words of Allaah, “women past childbearing who do not expect wedlock and because they have grown old and are not desirable.

Then he said: There is no dispute that the hair of an elderly woman is ‘awrah and it is not permissible for a non-mahram to look at it, as is the case with the hair of a young woman. If she prays with her head uncovered, then like a young woman (in the same situation), her prayer is invalid.

Why Is the Fear of Taliban Rule irrational?

Why Is the Fear of Taliban Rule irrational?

Why is the Fear of Taliban Rule Irrational? Two Canadian Imams tell us that the Taliban are governing according to Islam principals. Imam Shabbir Ally says that there is a portion of the Muslim community in Canada that strongly support Taliban rule. However some Muslims prefer a more laid back form Islam. Imam Kathrada says Taliban rule is legitimate because they are the ruling authority. He also says that he loves the Taliban rule as all Muslims should.

Not all Canadian Muslim Reject Concept Taliban Rule

Canadian Imam Shabbir Ally

Imam Shabbir Ally

Thinking more broadly about the different kinds of reactions we will get within the Muslim community and from without. I would say that from within the Muslim community there’s going to be a split of opinion. There are some Muslims who will say – once we are talking about the Islamic rule – we are talking about establishing the laws of the Quran and the way of the prophet Muhammad – on the ground that must be good in and of itself and I think no Muslim can deny that. We all want to see the Quran and its teachings and the way of the prophet Muhammad as we try to implement it in our own personal lives we want to see that on the ground as well. Now that’s the point of view of just applying the Islamic law now when we think about the safety and security of people, this is a prime importance and Islamic law is not divorced from the safety and security of people. In fact this is of of Paramount importance. In Surah 24 verse number 55 says “God has promised to those who believe and do good good deeds he will cause them be successors in the land” meaning that they will inherit the power in the land.

Muslims who adhere to strict Islamic Law will not be punished

This is quite unreal it’s bizarre what contributes to this level of fear is it their knowledge of the actions of the Taliban on the ground  when they were in power? Or is it that some people have painted the Taliban as the apocalyptic zombies to be feared? Is it a kind of irrational fear that is driving people too go nuts when they hear that the Taliban is coming? So this is left to the analyst

The beating should not be severe as in classical times

Canadian Imam Younus Kathrada

I mean this beating people to obey the Islamic rules to that extent that is going over and beyond what the classical Islamic law dictates. In classical Islamic law okay so there is corporal punishment for adultery. People may start thinking let’s take it to step further. Make sure that people don’t come close to that. So the result would be even unthinkable. And of course it’s not totally preventable because human nature is human nature.

Over and beyond is a subjective call. Because Taliban are the authority it is their call.

The Quran is worded in such a way that it is open to a variety of interpretations. If anyone says well, we must apply the Quran the way people in the past have applied it, most likely mean they are applying one meaning, the way that somebody has applied it. So that’s only one level of analysis. Another level, the sayings of the prophet Muhammad, because often the Quran is vague and the meanings of the Quran are supplemented by what is found in reported sayings of the prophet Muhammad. Not all of the reported sayings are authentic. First of all be classified and the books there is saheel bukhari – on one hand there’s even – imagine on the other hand in terms of the Justice six most famous books. Saheeh bukhari to be saheeh authentic is said to include some week or even fictitious hadiths. That’s by classical acknowledgment.

Is CBC Suppressing Muslim Voices Concerning Taliban’s Rise to Power? In August of 2021, the Americans withdrew from Afghanistan, which permitted the Taliban to regain control. The CBC reported extensively on this from many angles: human rights, women’s rights, education, interpreters, airport explosion, etc.

One angle that seems to be missing from the extensive coverage of the rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan is the voice of Canadian Muslim leaders. As of September 8, 2021, a search on CBC web site revealed nothing that referred to Canadian Imam Younus Kathrada’s statements about the Taliban.

I incite you to show support for your brothers in Afghanistan who wants to establish the Shari’a in their land. We see that the West wants to talk about the rights of women. Oh yes, the rights of women, her right to be a prostitute, her right to sleep around with whomever she wishes. I want you to understand what those rights are, oh, by the way, her right to be abused, her right to show her body off to men who gets off on watching her in porn. Allah Grant victory to the mujahideen for your sake everywhere. Are Females permitted to expose their face in public?

Are Females permitted to expose their face in public?

Toronto Cabbage Town 2008

Islam mandatory face cover. Females are sometimes allowed to expose their face in public. However there are occasions when a female is forbidden to expose her face in public. There are two main factors that decide this issue. The first factor is the desires of her male guardian. The second factor is her attractiveness to strangers, the likelihood she will be noticed.

The behavior of people in general is determined by what is deemed normative in the culture in which they are incubated. A simple illustration of this concept is a child raised in a home with a strong work ethic will by osmosis likely develop a similar attitude. It is evident that culture similarly plays a large role in shaping the attitudes of people living in that culture. Conversely the attitudes of the people shapes the culture.

In the Islamic or Arab culture it is accepted as normative that*… Women in Islam is distributed by the Dawa’h group at Dundas SQ. Toronto.

…*wicked minded, evil and violent men lurk about and seek to take advantage of women whom they find susceptible, gullible or traveling alone. Such wicked-minded men are of course either interested in robbery, trickery, seduction, or rape.

The theory is that all women know that predators are lurking about waiting for an opportunity to pounce. An apt analogy is, if a man knowingly goes swimming in waters that are heavily shark infested he should reasonably expect to be attacked by a shark. The shark is not blamed for doing what is natural to a shark. Men’s uncontrollable lustfulness is a trait that was put into them by Allah. Therefore once aroused it should not be denied. Women bear complete responsibility to not arouse men’s lustful desires.

Islam’s mandatory face cover if rejected can bring severe consequences.

Imam Karim Abu Zaid who has lectured in Toronto and other Canadian cities uploaded a lecture – Can they force me to wear Hijab? (Taliban in Afghanistan) on Aug 27, 2021. Below is a partial transcript.

When somebody who is learned who knows how to read the Quran tells you that a hijab is not in the Quran, in the Sunnah, there is something wrong with your mind. Whether you’re a twisted minded person or you really do not know how to read, but hijab is an element of this religion… Hijab is in the revelation. Hijab is part of this religion.

We may debate the concept here… Hijab by the way means a screen, means a veil… The consensus of scholars that the hijab in Islam is to cover the entire body except the face and the two palms… But there is a place in the Sharia regarding what we call nikab. In Afghanistan it is called the burka. Covering of the entire face except for the two eyes. There are scholars who say it’s mandatory

Human beings are conditioned by the society in which they live. Naturally when you see a woman scantily dressed and revealing her physical features, versus when you see a woman modestly dressed, covering her head, not revealing any of her physical features, impressions that will come to mind do not need mentioning. Needless to say, dress represents her modesty, and through it she commands the respect in the society. Whereas when a woman chooses to show her body in one form or another, the message is only one: she wants attention and possibly much more.

The obvious implication is that women not covered will be molested. If they are molested or raped it is their fault for not being covered. Ergo they were asking for it. Ergo they could be killed to restore the family honour.

Conclusion

The picture below is not extreme. It is mandated by the Liberal government that this attire be accepted in Canada as normal. Canada has enshrined the right of women to wear this during the citizenship ceremony. This is way of dressing is bizarre & insane. Covid mask studies reveal that masks stunt human development and hinder interpersonal reactions. The face is our most basic of human interaction. You cannot have a functioning society when a people you live with show open contempt.

Poetry love sonnet, song, dance, romance, heart ack, courtship, chivalry, do not exist in the Islamic culture as defined by Islam contained in the doctrine. Some if not all of what of these are expressly forbidden and defined as evil. There is no doubt that when able the Muslim community will attempt to impose their values on all people. They will do this because it is the will of Allah clearly mandated in the Quran. Of course that is not a worry of anyone alive today. This will only be a serious concern in 5 generations or about 120 years. Montreal in the mid 80’s Islam had no presence in the city. It had no presence on or in the news. The word Islam I never heard spoken.

Why Do Canadian Imams Support the Taliban?

Why Do Canadian Imams Support the Taliban?

Do Canadian Muslims support Taliban? We could ask “Why would believing Muslims not support the Taliban?” The fundamental issue is to what point do the Taliban reflect mainstream Islam. The popular narrative is that the Taliban are a fringe group that has distorted the true Islam. We need to ask the question:

Does the Taliban represent the True Islam as the Rashidun (first four rightly guided Caliphates) practiced it in the first centuries of Islam? Below the transcript of Imam kathrada’s sermon are several wisdoms that influential Canadian Muslim leaders share. They answer this question. The esteemed Muslim leaders are: Iqbal Nadvi, ex president of ICNA, Mustafa Farooq, CEO of NCCM, Dr Katherin Bolluck, lecturer at University of Toronto, Abdool Hamid, senior lecturer at Toronto Islamic Institute, Imam Abu Ameenah Bilal Philip, who has translated and commented on over 50 published books on various Islamic topics, and Imam Syed Hassan Mujtaba Rizvi.

The Taliban has established a Sharia state. Muslim leaders in Canada aspire to do the same.

Islam is actually become a kind of solution for humanity and it is only we if Allah uses us it is the best service to make his law a solution for all humanity – if we do this thing – I can say to you it will be the best thing not only for us for this country (Canada) but for the whole of humanity as well.

Mustafa Farooq In a Facebook post (November 3, 2009) wrote (the post is no longer available online):

In terms of civic disobedience, while definitely important, we have to look more closely at how are we Muslims going to recreate Cordoba* in Edmonton/Toronto/Montreal/any Canadian city? We have a massive task ahead of us, but I really believe that it is one at which we can succeed, one in which we erase these artificial “nation-state” identities, and move together to pursue Jannah [paradise].
